My mother's child
My momma is an entertainer. She could put any party planner to shame. Growing up there was always some big party at our house. On the day of a party, my mom was a nervous wreck. Everything had to be perfect and I could never understand. Was it necessary to sweep the floor when people were just going to track in all sorts of stuff anyway?? Here I am now, 23 years old and I had my first party yesterday in my first real place (living in a dorm or hotel doesn't count as a real place). About 2 hours before the party I sent the roomies out to get the last minute things (hmm, sounding familiar). Then I started trying to do a million things at once. I was making homemade mac and cheese, cleaning the place up, doing laundry, etc. Then I stopped for a second and just had a good laugh because I was my mom. I strive to be like her in so many ways, but it always catches me off guard when I do something EXACTLY how she would. It is good to know that some of entertaining skills have been passed on to me.
The party was a huge success! Some say it was the best party they've been to on this island. That was just them being nice. I think we ended up having about 25 people. People came for sunset and dinner. Our landlord supplied chicken and beer which was very nice. Then he had his "hired help" cook for us! Poor Yvonne was stuck barbecuing chicken in the rain! It wouldn't be a party if it didn't rain for a little while, would it, momma? I have a funny picture of Yvonne, but it's not on my computer. Stay tuned. I will definitely post it! It was a beautiful sunset! I have posted some pictures below so you can see how pretty it was. We watched the LSU game on tv. Well I think people watched me watch the LSU game. Every now and then someone would ask, "Hey, Melissa! Where'd you go to school again?" To which I would proudly respond, "Vanderbilt!" They think it's hysterical that I'm such a huge fan of a school I didn't even attend.
Sonia and I sitting on the porch with the sunset in the background.
This is Lennie (the landlord) and my girls Kelly on the left and Sonia on the right! The picture is kind of blurry for some reason, but you can still see how beautiful the sunset was. Momma and MiMi, you will be enjoying one sunset on the porch!
