I'm baaaacck!
If the way this semester began is any indication of how the rest of the four months will be, it is going to be an interesting one!!! I left my house at 4:45AM yesterday morning. My flights in New Orleans and Dallas went over without a hitch, but then I got to Puerto Rico. Everything was going smoothly. They had taken us on the little bus out to our plane, we boarded the plane, and then we just sat. I was in the very back and I started listening to the two stewards talking. They didn’t know who our captain was or where he was. Then they started calling people at the airport and were speaking in machine gun Spanish but I could pick out “El capitan. Donde el capitan??” This is DEFINITELY not something I wanted to hear while I am sitting on this little two prop plane. So TWO HOURS LATER our pilot arrives on our plane. It was unreal, definitely a first in my book. I hope it never happens again either. Grenada was a breeze, and my friend Ron was nice enough to come pick me up at the airport so I could go meet up with everyone at the Owl. When I got there I received quite a welcome from my friends. Mikey was so happy to see me that he started screaming and picking me up. Then Jenn and Seun (Nigerian lab partner) came running over. Needless to say the people in there who did not know me kept looking at me like “Who are you?” It was hysterical. Luckily my friends were at the Owl because that is the only place on the island who has food past 8:30, and since my flight got in at 9:15, I would have been in BIG trouble. The food was wonderful…HAHA. Just kidding! I decided to stay with Jenn on campus for the night since it was 11:30 and I didn’t feeling like waking up my landlord. Seun was so nice and carried my stuff up to Jenn’s suite. He put it in one of the extra bedrooms (none of Jenn’s roommates are in Grenada yet), and then he did the dumbest thing. He SHUT the bedroom door!!! The bedroom doors in the suite lock automatically and we didn’t have a key to get in. Somehow my little travel pillow was outside of the room but everything else was locked inside. Jenn had no extra covers so I had to sleep with just my little pillow and no covers. Needless to say I didn’t sleep well. I was freezing. I told you I am having all sorts of new adventures!! We finally tracked down Jenn’s RA and got the key, so I was able to shower and put on new clothes. Unfortunately that was after we went to eat brunch at 11:00. Yes, I was in the exact same clothes from yesterday. The ones I put on at 4:30 in the morning. I have never felt so disgusting. Well that sums up Day 1 of my return to Grenada. Stay tuned because the adventures continue!
