Ready the troops!
Here's an interesting little piece of news that I just found out. Starting tomorrow, Grenada is going on strike. The people are mad because the government promised them there would be no income tax put into place after Hurricane Ivan. Well the government has changed its mind and is going to implement the tax. What does all this mean for me?? Well hopefully it will be resolved quickly except that "quickly" doesn't exist in the Grenadian dictionary. The only reason I am concerned is because the grocery stores are going to be closed. I haven't been to the grocery in two weeks. So if all this makes the news look for me. I'll be the little medical student looting the grocery store!! (Think of New Orleans post Katrina, but this time all the little American med students will be looting) At least I finally got my food tonight! Ok, I'm being a little overdramatic, but the grocery and every other business is not reopening tomorrow. Plus, it wouldn't be nearly as fun to read this if I didn't overdramatize SOME things! Don't you agree?? Should be an interesting time.

An issue from the Prime Minister's office:
January 19, 2006 St. George’s: The Government of Grenada would like to advise that tomorrow, Friday January 20, is a normal work day. Government expects persons to go to their places of work tomorrow, as they would normally do on any other day. Government has received clear indication from people right across Grenada that tomorrow will be treated like any other work day. Government would like to stress to all citizens that the country is in a critical rebuilding stage now, and cannot afford any major disruption.Government also recognises that we are in the middle of our school term; tourist season; and in mid January which is traditionally one of the most difficult months for businesses. Government applauds the sentiments expressed by the Hotel Association, Conference of Churches and other responsible non Governmental organisations
