Grenada General
Today was my visit to Grenada General Hospital! WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! There were only three of us in my group and we were assigned a patient. We had to take a full history of the patient and do limited physical exam. The hospital was very primitive. It was divided into half, one side for women and one for men. Each floor was set up into wards. Our patient was located on the surgical ward. She was the sweetest lady!! She told us exactly what she had (an enlarged spleen) and was quite helpful in giving us information. Other groups had difficult patients. The doctor that was supervising is probably one of my favorite people at this school. She was so nice and helpful. The worst part about the experience was the fact that there was no air condition!! It was so hot especially when we had to close the curtains around the bed for the physical exam. I feel so bad for those patients that are stuck in those beds with that heat! I struggled with the heat and I am not sick!! I will admit that I was a little scared at first. I just didn't know what to expect. It was really liking stepping back in time with the wards and the little nurses uniforms that are non-existent in the US these days. I am so greatful to have had the opportunity to see the hospital here and I loved that I was able to examine a patient. It is an experience I will never forget.
That is all for my ramblings today. I must get to work on my FINAL CPC. All the pressure is off for this! Some crazy person volunteered! YAY!!!
