Well I don't know where to begin. It has been an interesting trip thus far. First off, flying was a NIGHTMARE with the new security measures. They suggested that I be at the Atlanta airport 3 hours in advance. When I got to the counter, my bag weighed over 50 lbs so they made me transfer stuff into my other bag. My flight was delayed on the runway in Atlanta so I arrived in Charlotte at 9:10. My flight to Barbados took off at 9:25. I had to sprint through the entire Charlotte airport and made it! Turned out that flight was delayed on the runway as well. I made it to Barbados an hour late and waited in the customs line for another hour. I had to get all my luggage and carry it all to the ticket counter to check into my Caribbean flight. Well my luggage was super heavy and the walk was forever and I couldn't manage. I paid some worker at the airport $5 to carry my stuff. At this point I had about a 4 hour layover. Well that turned into six hours. I finally arrived in St. Vincent at 11PM. I got to my place and it was just gross. Our landlord hasn't really cleaned the place. I was too tired to worry about it then.
Day 2:
Not much better than day 1. I hadn't eaten since the meal on the plane from Charlotte to Barbados so I was in need of food (not that I was hungry). The food was good. The rest of the day is basically a blur. We were trying to figure out what to do about the housing situation. As of right now we are staying, but if something better were to come up then I would take it. Jean arrived as well as most everyone else.
Day 3:
The first day of my last term in the Caribbean!! Pharmacology was quite boring, but then again the introductory lectures are never ever fun. Pathophysiology is great. Currently we are doing a section on Clinical Anatomy and we are learning where to make surgical incisions so you don't cut arteries, veins, nerves, etc. It's very interesting and only slightly important!! We only lost electricity twice during the four hours of lecture. (Apparently this NEVER happens in St. Vincent, and I am being serious). After class we went into town to get a few things. I had to get a new cell phone (still don't have that...long story) and a bunch of little things. The cell phone took forever and still didn't happen so we grabbed some KFC and went home. We were able to get a car reserved which is a big thing off the list. We should get it sometime today. There are no words for the driving situation. The best way I can describe it is with a story. When I was traveling from the airport to my apartment on Saturday night we were on a very narrow road. I asked the cab driver in horror "What do you do if a car is coming the other way?" His reply was hysterical. "We take a one way road and make it into a two way! We are good drivers in St. Vincent, mon." I ABOUT DIED!! That's about all for Day 3.
Now to bring you to the current situation. We are in our first Pharmacology lecture this morning and our professor is this socially awkward German. He starts coughing, his voice starts quivering and he is sweating profusely. Basically he was having a panic attack and could not continue with the lecture. So we have been sitting here since waiting for our 10:00 professor. During all the sitting we have once again lost electricity. No AC + 350 people in a lecture hall = uncomfortably hot! Ok, that is all for now. I will be on more of a schedule in the days to come and will begin posting more often.
