A Big Day
Well it has been an exciting day! This morning I had a lecture on Professionalism and then this afternoon I had introductions to all my courses and the White Coat Ceremony. Class was good. I expected the professors to put the fear of God in us, but they didn’t. They gave us all type of hints on how to study which was odd to me. I don’t get to meet my cadaver until Friday morning, and I can’t wait. This whole time I thought we would get to do that today and we didn’t. Oh well. After class was the White Coat Ceremony, and it was really nice. A little on the lengthy side, but excellent speeches on being a compassionate doctor. The man who created the White Coat Ceremony gave the keynote address. He won the entire crowd over when he said that 20 medical schools in the US rejected him so he went to Switzerland to get his degree. Then he said, “And now I’m the professor at Columbia University!” Considering we’re in the same shoes he was, we loved that comment! There was a reception afterwards, but we didn’t stay long because we had so much reading to do for tomorrow. Welcome to medical school!! It’s time for me to go to bed. I have an early day tomorrow, and need to get some rest. I am exhausted. Goodnight! Happy Mardi Gras!
