Fun facts

So today wasn’t a very eventful day. I had Histology lab this morning and class this afternoon. Then I came home and did some studying. Since I don’t have much to report I thought I would fill you in on some of the things that make life in Grenada interesting!

Fun facts about Grenada:
Hardest thing to find: MILK, especially since the hurricane. The only milk is this stuff that doesn’t have to be refrigerated. I’m not quite sure what it is, but it tastes good in my coffee. I will never drink it plain, however, because it has a brownish color to it. I guess it’s something like condensed milk??
National sport: Cricket. I’m learning all about this interesting game. There are evidently two types, one of which can last for 5 days! Who wants to play or watch a game that lasts that long?
National pastime: Liming – an activity geared toward hanging out with friends or whoever one chooses to associate with in a fun-loving atmosphere.
I wish I had more time to do some liming.
Interesting laws: It is illegal to curse in public, but it is legal to drink your Carib beer or rum while driving your car. Hmmm.
On every corner you will find “snack bars.” When I asked a taxi driver what you could get at these snack bars he said, “Rum!” I didn’t know rum was considered a snack, but I believe it is one of the basic food groups here in Grenada.
Only place to get late night food: As we medical students call it, street meat. Yes, the name is not appetizing, but there is nothing like late night barbecue chicken when you’ve been studying. They have barbecue pits set up on the side of the road, and they starting cooking around 6PM. The locals tend to lime there all night, and the boys are best friends with Simon who cooks the chicken! Nothing compares to Wendy’s or Krystal at 2AM, but this is the best Grenada has to offer.
A ½ liter bottled Coke is cheaper than a 12 oz can of Coke! The only reason is that they can recycle the bottles but not the aluminum.
Grenadians are OBSESSED with Celine Dion. I seriously haven't gone one day without hearing her about 5 times on the radio.

More of these to come! Hope all is well with you!

That milk is very pasturized and if you put plenty of ice it is not bad, I drank it in Cancun. Don't look at it. Love you Mimi
