This is yesterday's hike in pictures! Picture 1 is some of the scenery on our drive to the north of the island. This is one of the prettiest black sand beaches I have seen with the mountains right next to the ocean.
Picture 2 is just to give you the idea of how crazy (and narrow) the roads are here.

Picture 3 is us starting out on the hike. We still look happy in this one. Trust me, this changes as we go up the volcano!
Picture 4 is us at 1300 feet. There was a little stream and it was just really pretty. Little did I know that I had another 3000 feet to go to the summit.
This is our tour guide Oswald with the Heavenly Steps in the background. I still can't decide if they named them the heavenly steps because you are hiking up to heaven, or if you are going to die and go to heaven just trying to make it up. THEY WERE DIFFICULT!
We are almost there!! Just taking a nice little rest on a rock. See how rocky it was when you got to the final 1/3 of the trail?? I seriously had no clue what I was getting myself into!! HAHAHA!
WE HAVE ARRIVED!!!! This is looking across the crater! We are on one rim of it looking across to the other. The crater is 700 feet deep with a 500 foot mountain in the center (a result of the eruption of 1979). In the far distance is the Caribbean sea and a beautiful clear sky.
WE DID IT!!!!!!!
This was an unforgettable experience (and a one time ordeal). Hope you enjoyed the pictures!!
