Great news today

I received a message from my Grandma and PawPaw that they spoke to my dad via satellite phone (only communication available in Slidell). I am so glad to hear that he is safe and everyone is doing ok. That news made my day. I am curious to hear about any damage to my MiMi's house and my own but knowing that my family is well makes all the difference in the world. I was glued to the television for the past couple of days, but I have quit watching it. The news media REALLY aggrevates me. Even Shephard Smith is driving me nuts so I stopped watching. Trust me, this is a good thing. I haven't gotten much work accomplished in the past couple of days. I still rely heavily on the internet for information pertaining to Slidell. The damage looks pretty bad, but I know that everyone will join together and rebuild that wonderful place that I call home.
On a lighter note, last night I was sitting in our apartment eating dinner when I heard a scream. All of the sudden Sonia came running out of her room saying there was a crab in her shower. *NOTE: I was not responsible for putting it in there.* It was the tiniest little crab and we think it crawled from teh drain. So we thought we had sent it down the drain, so she hopped in the shower. It definitely came back!! I had to go in there and get it out. It was hysterical.
I had Physiology lab this afternoon. It was so much fun. We learned how to do EKG's, and one of our group members got to be our "patient." My friend Megha and I really wanted to shave his chest (which was required if there was too much hair), but it didn't happen. They had these pretty pink disposable razors available and we thought it would have been funny. I threatened to shave his ankles when we put the electrode on his legs. He was not amused. HAHA! I kept my cell phone in my pocket just in case someone got through to me. At one point I got a call that said "Private" so I excused myself. It was a Grenadian telemarketer! NOW YOU KNOW! I was not happy. I went back and apologized to the doctor that was overseeing my group and explained the situation. He understood. I still feel bad. That is something I normally would NEVER even think about doing, but under the circumstances I felt it necessary. Oh well. I will just have to wait until cell towers are restored. Ok, I need to run take an online quiz and then go to a study group. Love you all. Talk to you soon.

We just had a phone call from Diana (from Brice's office) as she & her husband were passing through Hammond on their way back to stay with her husband's mother in some other parish. Her Cell phone worked when they got to Hammond. Brice & Kathy are staying at their home in Slidell (with Baxter). Stewart is staying in BR & is shuttling (sp) food, ice, water, & other essentials over to Slidell daily. Brice has a generator there at the house which gives them a few lights, & another generator is on the way. They have a bathroom that works. They got a little water in the house & are moving some furniture out onto the carport. A tree fell on the office bldg just over Brice's office. Diana & her husband live on Military Rd & got some water in their home also. They worked there today cleaning up. They shared a bottle of wine with your folks (on Starling) tonight. Diana & her husband plan to be back in Slidell on Saturday & she & Brice are going to go look at a temporary bldg to move the office into while repairs are made. She said Brice & Kathy & Stewart & Baxter were all OK. We were sorry to hear about the storm damage, but very glad to hear that they are all OK, & are able to stay there in their home.
Love you, P&G

Your Dad called here about 4:00 PM this afternoon & talked with G. I was at the grocery store. He was on a satellite phone at the Police Station in Slidell. G said it was a fairly good connection, and she was very glad to get to talk with him.
He said he had gone to sleep on the couch in the den & Baxter was up there with him, & B started barking. He woke up & saw that water was coming in, so he picked up a hammer & he & B went upstairs. He said the water was about 18" deep, but ran back out after several hours. Shelley & Ryan have been there helping clean up & Sondra was there helping. Neither of them had any water in their houses. He said Darrell Blalock's house was pretty badly damaged. Your Dad said his office was damaged by a tree falling on it, & he & Diana are going to look around for another location. The storm knocked out the back of the barn there on Starling, & moved some tractors around.
Love you, P&G
