Today I had my first small group discussion for my Clinical Skills class. Basically if you show up and say something intelligent, you pass, and the class is only graded on a pass/fail basis. You don’t even get credit for taking it. A Grenadian doctor led our discussion, and he was really nice. I actually ate breakfast this morning, and it was so good. I found a place on campus that sells pastries really cheap. I got a cinnamon twist for $2EC, which is about 75 cents! Today is the first day that I have eaten 3 meals. I think I’m averaging about one meal a day. I eat two, but the other one is usually not so good. I just can’t eat it. Once again, Grenada was a British colony and we all know how famous the Brits are for their excellent cuisine (yeah right)! Sadly, I don’t think I’m losing any weight because the only safe foods are French fries and other fattening things. We only had three classes this afternoon instead of the usual four because we had to take our CPR exam. Too bad all medical school exams can’t be like that one! I finished within 30 minutes, so it was nice to get home a little earlier than usual. I make myself come home and relax after class everyday simply because I’m usually tired after 4 hours of sitting in the same lecture hall. I came home and swam to the buoy and back in the ocean. It was a workout today! The current was strong so to swim out was tough. Although getting back to land was no problem! I almost floated right in! =) The workload is quickly getting more and more, and I can tell everyone is feeling a little more stressed (including myself). Things that help me get through are the e-mails from friends and family, so please keep them coming! I get to check my e-mail a couple of times a day and it’s always nice to have mail. I understand that people can’t make comments on here. I will try to figure out why this is so, and will let you all know! Mom tells me that tons of people are reading this everyday! I feel like I’m Anne Frank of the 21st Century!
Almost forgot! This is kind of gross so if you don’t want to read it, you don’t have to. During lecture on Friday, the Anatomy professors made fun of this one group for how bad they did on their dissection. (We have fun professors. They love to joke around with us.) The group had cut really far down when we were only looking at the top layer of muscles on the back. Well today they had to apologize to them. It turns out their cadaver died during surgery, and the surgeon never sewed them up!! Gross Anatomy lab is turning into something like CSI! On Friday we get to dissect the spine and perform a laminectomy (remove part of the spine so you can see the spinal cord). I can’t wait!!!
