Funny farm

Yes, I am still alive! I know it's been a couple of days but I am in true study mode and have become a recluse the past couple of days. This afternoon we got a change of pace and instead of making the trek to the hospital, we went to the mental hospital. As always, it was an experience. We parked the car on the street and walked into the gates of what did not look like a mental hospital. There were several stone buildings with bars on all the windows. The patients clothes were all hanging from the bars where they had washed them. Every patient in their room ran to their windows to stare and holler at us. There were chickens and roosters EVERYWHERE. [Feel free to insert your own joke about me truely visiting the funny farm today...it's too easy to pass up!] There was one patient just walking around outside in pants that were about 10 sizes too big for him so he had them pulled up almost to his nipple line and was still holding them on! He was talking in gibberish and then would make these crazy sounds. And this was just the beginning...
We walk in to the main entrance and of course every patient is just staring at you. It's a little creepy. We met our doctor and she took us to meet our patient. He was a pitiful little thing. My heart breaks for him because he is so sick. He told us all about a garbage truck that spreads carbon dioxide and pollutes the air. He must re-perfume himself after it passes by. He also pointed at me and said he had a daughter "my color." Bless his heart. Keep in mind we are interviewing him in this small room with all the doors and windows open (so we don't melt from the heat) and my friend with the big pants would come bang and make noises. I really don't know why I have this fascination with Psychiatry. I definitely can't see myself as a Psychiatrist, but I really enjoy it. I think it would get really old really quickly. Sadly this was my last rotation until the Monday after next. We have off next week since tests begin Friday. Next rotation on the list: Ob/Gyn.
Until that time, I will post sporadically, but for the most part I will just be studying like a crazy person (possibly one with their pants pulled up as high as they will go). Ok, that's just wrong. Let the studying begin!
